BMW M6 Shooting Brake Rendering Makes Us Wonder

Earlier this week we showed you the M4 Shooting Brake rendering that gave us a couple of things to think about. The thing is the M4 brings back the M spirit as we know it and therefore it might be a bit too harsh for some people.
On the other hand, there are plenty more cars in the M range that can be used to be transformed in such vehicles that can be taken for drives when going hunting. In case you didn’t know, that’s what shooting brakes were used for when they were originally invented.

The M6 seems like a perfect candidate. That’s because it has that GT spirit inside it that simply makes you want to cover long distances with a long of power at the tip of your toes in comfort. Oh, yes, the M6 is comfortable when you want it to.

So, think about this scenario for a moment: a shooting brake with 600 HP and 800 Nm (590 lb-ft) of torque, a proper twin-turbo V8 under the bonnet and rear wheel drive. Well, maybe the RWD setup wouldn’t be ideal....

That’s not a catastrophe. BMW also has the world’s most powerful 3-liter diesel at the moment, the N57S tri-turbo that makes 381 HP and 740 Nm (553 lb-ft) of torque. Oh, and it’s also available with xDrive but not on the 6 Series range at the moment.

However, if BMW would be willing to create a whole new niche model like a shooting brake, I think it would be safe to say that they might also reconsider bringing this diesel to the 6 Series models, right?

Maybe you’re more into wagons

The difference between a shooting brake and a wagon is that the former has two doors and the latter four. Well, that’s in theory at least as modern models (see the CLA and CLS) have four doors (well, including the tailgate, five doors).

In that case, if you also want the M badge on your car you’re out of luck. The last wagon M car that BMW put in production was the E61 M5 and that’s long gone by now. Sure, it was a mad ride with a 5-liter V10 under the bonnet making in excess of 500 HP but there simply wasn’t enough demand for it, unfortunately.

With the new niche war BMW is fighting, we might even see it make a comeback. In the meantime, we can dream about it while admiring this M6 Shooting Brake done by X-Tomi Design.
