Barely a month ago we were telling you that BMW plans to replace the current Z4 GT3, GTE and GTLM cars with a new model, the car chosen to fill these big shoes being the M6. Well, yesterday, BMW confirmed the plans and even released a few sketches of the car to tease the hell out of us.
2016 will be the year BMW Motorsport will be adding this new chapter to its success story in GT races. The BMW M6 GT3 will be replacing the Z4 that has been running in various races since 2010. Development of the new car is currently under way and the first tests are scheduled for early 2015.

Interested customers will be able to purchase the new car for their private teams starting with the end of 2015, allowing them to enter the 2016 competitions like the BMW Sports Trophy challenge with the new model.

“For me, as BMW Motorsport Director, there are few things more exciting than the development of a completely new car like the BMW M6 GT3,” said BMW Motorsport Director Jens Marquardt.

“This car’s properties make it predestined to succeed the BMW Z4 GT3. The BMW Z4 GT3 has enjoyed success around the world in recent years, and is very popular among our customers. We obviously want to follow on from this success with the BMW M6 GT3,” added Jens.

According to him, the target is to provide the customers with the best possible replacement for the Z4. Of course, in this endeavor, BMW also wants to prove its reliability and the substance of the BMW M spirit in all of its M6 GT3 cars.

“One thing is certain from the first design sketches: this car is going to have the wow factor,” he said about the design of the new car.

Current Z4 GT3 owners can rest assured that BMW will keep on offering support for their cars, just like it happened in the past as well.

The heart of the new model will be a 4.4-liter turbocharged V8

The M6 GT3 model will be using a BMW M Twin Power Turbo 8-Cylinder petrol engine of 4.4-liters instead of the previous naturally aspirated unit used on the Z4 models. Of course, special measures will be taken to make sure everything’s on par with the demands of a race car.

The chassis will be optimized by hand for the racetrack by BMW’s Motorsport shop in Munich and everything else will be tuned to meet the highest expectations in the field.

The gearbox, ABS system, racing electronics and aerodynamics, all of them will be upgraded to cope with the latest in the field. The focus of all the research will be on keeping the same standards of reliability, safety and affordability teams have been getting used to.
