CNET’s legendary Brian Cooley took on the majestic BMW M6 Gran Coupe to see what all the fuss was about in their latest test drive.
The brand new 4-door coupe was put to the test both on and off track and Brian’s findings match our own, pretty much. Of course, the powertrain received all of his praise, the 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 raising to his highest expectations, especially for a car that’s so heavy.

Therefore, the track test was passed with flying colors, amazing the man and his crew at the same time. One thing that surprised us was that he was the only one so far that didn’t complain about all the customizing options for the car’s handling and powertrain and actually found them useful, taking his time to go through all of them in his video.

Going over the road performance, where the car is most likely to be used, the comfort and space of the coupe couldn’t be denied but there is a problem with backing up and the rear offers little to no visibility.

In the end, he also makes a valid point. Why would someone go for an M6 Gran Coupe if he won’t take his car to the track? The 650i GC makes a lot more sense for a lot less money and therefore should be your number one option if you’re not a track fiend. We really suggest you watch his entire take on the matter, in the video below.
