BMW M6 Gran Coupe Looks Fresh on HRE Wheels

The BMW M6 Gran Coupe is a bit of a conundrum, a car that puzzled many people but that eventually proved it has its own character, its own style, apart from the M6 Coupe and the M5 Sedan with which it shares a thing or two.

Speaking of which, there are 4 models that share the same S63Tu engine these days, the one that makes 560 HP and 680 Nm (501 lb-ft) of torque out of 4.4 V8 liters: the M6, M6 Convertible, M6 Gran Coupe and the M5 Sedan. Before you jump out of your seat to tell us that the E70 and E71 X5 M and X6 M use the same unit, we’d like to remind you that’s the S63 unit, the one that eats up more fuel and has 5 hp less.

Now, despite BMW calling it a Gran Coupe, the name it uses for all cars that have a sloping roofline like a Coupe but four doors, the M6 GC is obviously a sedan. The separate boot is one indication but the rest of it also makes things quite obvious. At the same time, it’s a glorious looking one, probably one of the best looking cars the Bavarians are making at the moment.

So, this is a sedan that shares its platform and engine with the M5. Which is better? This is where things are rather perplexing. The M5 is marginally lighter than the M6 so it should be faster, right? Well... not quite.

The M6 Gran Coupe, despite its extra kilos, is faster than the M5 and by quite a lot too. While the sedan does the 100 km/h (62 mph) standing sprint in 4.4 seconds, the M6 Gran Coupe does the same 0.2 seconds faster. That’s something to think about.

And you can do so while you’re indulging yourself in these photos of one M6 Gran Coupe wearing HRE P101 wheels in Satin Black. Let us know what you came up with!
