BMW M6 Convertible vs Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG 4Matic Drag Race

The new M6 models were slammed for being way too heavy. Apparently, being overweight affects your track performance and the reviewers noticed that when they took the new models out for tests. However, most drivers don’t really go to proper circuits and don’t track their cars. What they actually do with such cars is drag racing.

That’s because it’s the easiest way to make use of all that power without needing too much skill, like the kind you would have to posses and display on a track. When you’re drag racing, all you have to do is floor it and keep the wheel straight.

Youtuber BerlinTomek got his hands on some quite powerful cars in the recent months, both from BMW and its eternal rival, Mercedes and, while his videos are not on par with Chris Harris’ reviews, they do show us how a regular Joe could enjoy these cars.

One of the most recent models he drove is a BMW F12 M6. For those of you not accustomed with the Bimmer talk, that’s the convertible. It’s basically using the same engine and chassis as the Coupe but has a retractable roof that adds on the already hefty weight of the hardtop.

Since he also had a BMW E63 AMG 4Matic a while back and recorded a couple of videos with it, Tomek decided to crop a drag race between the two, shot from right in front of the speedometers. Basically, he compared the acceleration of the two without them ever meeting.

Therefore, what we have here is a showdown between a rear-wheel drive BMW with 560 HP and 680 Nm (501 lb-ft) of torque, weighing 2,045 kg (4,508 lbs) against an all-wheel drive sedan with 557 HP and 720 Nm (531 lb-ft) of torque that weighs 1,920 kg (4,232 lbs). Who will win? Well... we were surprised as well. Check it out!
