The most powerful inline 6-cylinder 3-liter diesel engine in the world can now be found on the BMW M550d xDrive model, the BMW F15 X5 M50d and the BMW E71 X6 M50d. We're talking about the N57S unit, of course.
This incredibly powerful engine has 3 turbos, 381 HP and 740 Nm (550 lb-ft) of torque at its disposal and will absolutely destroy anything that stands against it. Fitted on the 5 Series, it will take the sedan up to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 4.7 seconds.

In the video below, one such car was pitted against a BMW A7 diesel biturbo, that also has a 3-liter 6-cylinder engine under the bonnet but this time it's a V6. That to those turbos it develops 313 HP and 650 Nm (480 lb-ft) of torque and reaches 100 km/h (62 mph) in 5.3 seconds.

Of course, when going against the King Kong of diesels, the Audi lags behind, even though they both have ZF 8-speed transmissions and all-wheel-drive systems on board. Once again, the BMW pulls away.
