Looking at what BMW created with the M5, Mercedes had to do something about its E63 AMG. And they did. They brought forward the Performance Package that raises the power and improves the car drastically.
The guys from Sport Auto decided to test the best V8-powered saloons Germany had to offer: the F10 BMW M5, Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG and the Panamera Turbo S.

These 3 cars are almost identical when it comes down to writing comparisons on paper. They all have turbocharged V8s under the bonnet, around 560 HP and are prepared to carry you in comfort and speed around the highways and go for a track day afterwards.

Looking at these cars, one can wonder, how do you separate the 3? All of them are luxurious, full of torque, rear-wheel-drive (so a lot of fun) and extremely fast. This test has to be really subjective.

The first thing you'll notice when sitting in all of them is the impressive amount of new technology. However, giving your customers the best possible tech mustn't burden the cockpit with all kinds of buttons and keys. The Panamera loses the interior contest due to its complicated, crowded amalgam of buttons you'll find on the center console.

Going over track performance, the M5 will prove to you that its Motorsport DNA is there all the way. Even though it is the most powerful here, by only 3 HP, it manages to feel better than its rivals and its extremely agile. The M5's Achile's heel is its brakes. Most journalists complained about this issue so BMW decided that it will be releasing a Competition Package for those looking for track days that will include Carbon Ceramic brakes.

The fastest car around the track was the Panamera Turbo S, with 1.12,1 minutes, proving that, despite being the heaviest, that's not going to hold it back. The Porsche had the best brakes in the contest and the transmission sends the power to all four wheels flawlessly.

Overall, the best car out of the 3 was the M5. The reason? It's obviously the most complete car here, no matter how shady the brakes can become. Even though the Panamera feels a bit more luxurious, its price tag is too high when looking at other cars in its segment. The Merc's way behind, on the track and off it and, no matter what, it's still behind the Bimmer, even with the Performance Package.
