After watching this video, as well as seeing and hearing a few F10 M5s on the road, we can now say for certain that it is a decent sounding car. The first one we heard, a few months ago, catapulted itself forward from a set of traffic lights, but the sound was less than impressive.
Then we heard another one which sounded much better, doing the same thing. This lead us to believe that the first car didn’t have sport mode enabled and thus, the exhaust noise was toned down. Now, thanks to Marchettino, we have ‘sound proof’ that the M5 sounds OK but no more than that, we’re sorry to report. It sounds a bit better under load, as opposed to being revved while stationary, but the improvement is really marginal.
What it sounds like - though, we say this sounds even better!
We posted a video a while back, featuring an old M5 V10 with a modified exhaust - to our ears, it sounded close to a Lambo / Ferrari kind of noise - racy and high-revving. This, frankly, sounds like a diesel with a straight exhaust - good, but not great! Maybe a custom exhaust will give it a bit more of that old racing feel that you got in the old M5.
