BMW M4 Moscow Drift Is Reckless, Beautiful and Insulting

The Internet is going crazy over this drift video from Moscow. The Russians are well known for their reckless shenanigans, but nobody has seen something quite like this before. It's like perfectly painting the Mona Lisa with your butt.

Skilfully drifting a car has been made easy by the latest generation of DCT gearboxes. After I had shown him this video, a friend of mine said he imagines his left foot would be shaking on the clutch due to all the excitement, even though the M4 in this video doesn't have one. To which I answered in true internet troll fashion: Oh, because it's not a true driver's car!

But a quick slap on the wrist was enough to remind me that the M4 is not like a Nissan GT-R; it's not a computer on wheels that solves every equation for you. The twin-clutch gearbox is there because you can't handle showing the middle finger to the Moscow police and keeping the steering wheel in opposite lock at the same time.

While the description in the Youtube video says the stunts you’ll see were staged and performed with permission from the police, we don't see how that can be true. I mean, it can if the police officer and the M4 driver are best friends, or if bribes were involved, but under no other circumstances are drifting around regular motorists allowed. The car doesn't even have plates!

It's so wrong! But it's also perfect because every guy who aspires to make it big in the gaming community and buy a drift car wants an M4. And while the Russians are constantly breaking the law, if you look at this from another perspective, this is like a land of freedom.

Nobody is getting hurt, and after the tire smoke has cleared, the party is over, so the M4 is like a 4th of July party that runs on gasoline, Russian gasoline.
