As soon as we learned about BMW's plans to introduce a water injection cooling system for the Moto GP M4 Safety Car, we knew that something was up. Combining the looks of that car with the spyshots of the upcoming M4 GTS we took we quickly told you that the improved M car would feature this technology.
The internet is full today with all sorts of articles confirming what we told you back then but that's not all. We're going off on another limb today telling you that the M4 GTS could also bring another novelty to the market and that's the introduction of OLED lights on a production model.

How did we come to this conclusion?

BMW unveiled the BMW Iconic Lights Concept at this year's Consumer Electronic Show and they used an M4 to do it. Furthermore, more than one official, at one point or another, said that we will be seeing this technology implemented on a new M model (and that's an important thing to remember) pretty soon, or to be more precise 'in the near future'.

All that, coupled with the important place the GTS will hold in BMW's line-up seem to point only to one conclusion: the M4 Safety Car is just a preview of what's coming.

So the GTS will have water injection cooling for the turbochargers (that will improve the performance of the engine and its fuel consumption), that wicked wing at the back but also a couple of extra things that are being kept away from us right now.

One of them is the new front spoiler lip that we've seen in spyshots before. It looks extremely aggressive and could make a big difference from an aerodynamic point of view. Finally, we'll be seeing the OLED technology on a production model for the first time.

If I was to make an assumption I'd say that the 7 Series will also get this kind of tech but let's not get ahead of ourselves here.

The M4 GTS apparently will also be launched this year, at the Pebble Beach Concours that is scheduled for August. That's also where the M2 will be showed for the first time but I'm afraid the smaller M car will not get all of this tech.

But who cares anyway. If the price is right, the M2 will rise to legendary status in no time with or without OLEDs.
