At first, one might be tempted to believe that the "best M car" part of the title above is more of a cliche than an actual quest. However, that's far from the truth, as there's a strong reason behind the need for such a battle.
Before we get to that, though, allow us to drop a short introduction for the piece of footage at the bottom of the page. The crew over at Carfection has put together a sweet track meeting involving the M2, the standard M4 and the GTS that makes the adjective used a few words ago seem normal.
We'll let the video do its job, so it's time to get back on the topic of why such a comparo is required. Well, BMW's M Division now builds considerably more models than before - heck, we don't even have half of them here.
And we're extremely thrilled to see the German engineers being allowed to bring back the all-sporty spirit BMW used to be defined by. You see, for the past fifteen years or so, the Bavarians have been busy moving from a company that was focused on driving pleasure to one that offers the complete approach. Added luxury, filled niches - all the stuff that makes sales boom and assures continuity is now here.
Alas, Bimmers have lost quite a lot of their dynamic feeling in the process and we are now living in the era that should see them regaining such a status. Sure, such things happen gradually and aren't accompanied by a press release, so, if you're willing to observe the process, you'll have to pay close attention to each new model that comes out.
Speaking of which, the future AWD-packing F90 M5, which will pack 600+ horsepower and be significantly lighter, should be a great point to start your observation journey (here's a spy clip). Meanwhile, though, we're inviting you to hit the "play" button below.
