A while back BMW decided to take the veils off their MotoGP Safety Car for this year, the brand new M4. The car was decked with M Performance Parts logos all over but no official details were released at the time.
In the wake of the new season kicking off, the officials decided to shed some light on what makes this particular M4 an M Performance car. Apart from the stock parts the car will also be fitted with:

  • BMW M Performance Titanium exhaust system with carbon finishers
  • BMW M Performance Black front grille
  • BMW M Performance Front splitter with blade
  • BMW M Performance Carbon Rear diffusor
  • BMW M Performance Carbon rear spoiler
  • BMW M Performance Carbon mirror caps
  • BMW M Performance Side skirts
  • BMW M Performance Alcantara steering wheel with race display
  • BMW M Performance Handbrake in carbon and alcantara
  • M Performance foot mats
  • Recaro Racing Seats with Schroth harnesses
Of course, the special, eye-catching livery used on Safety Cars will also be used as we’ve been getting used to over the last 15 years.

The 2014 season will kick-off on March 23rd in Qatar and will be ending on the 9th of November in Valencia and will feature the same awards from BMW as last year.

The nest qualifier over the entire season will get the classic BMW M Award which, in the 2013 season, was a special edition BMW M6 Coupe won by 20-year-old Marc Marquez from Spain. Furthermore, the BMW M Motorhome will still be visible around the tracks where the best bikers in the world will compete.

BMW’s latest Safety Car will be following in some pretty big shoes, after the tradition was started back in 1999 with the BMW Z8 Safety car. Over the years vehicles such as the E63 M6, E85 Z4 M Coupe, E82 1M Coupe, E92 M3 Coupe and even the E71 X6 M did the same job in the MotoGP Championship.
