BMW M4 1,000 Mile Test Drive

Usually, when one reviewer sets off to test a car, he or she doesn’t get to test it for 1,000 miles. Usually, especially with hot new performance cars, we get to drive it around a closet circuit for a couple of laps and then we’re off to write some amazing piece about it. It’s not the case here.

Here, Mat Watson gets to revel in the luxury, performance and dare we say it comfort of the new M4 across 1,000 miles. BMW seemingly gave him the car for three days and he decided to take it to the Nurburgring and back from the UK.

His trip was all recorded and posted on Youtube and it became a 17 minute long video. But by God it’s worth a watch. The thing is, most reviewers focus on its performance and how it compares against its older rivals.

Most of them get professional drivers to take it for a spin and see exactly how different it is on the track compared to a variety of other cars. Mat, on the other hand, decided to offer you the simpleton perspective.

He took it out just as a normal driver would and wanted to see how it would treat someone new to performance cars. The result was impressive.

The M4 turned out to be comfortable and extremely easy to drive, even on longer trips. Covering the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany, the trip allowed them to even charge for the car’s top speed at one moment.

This was also the first time Mat drove on the Nurburgring so you know he won’t forget the M4 too easily. After all this ordeal and the borderline crazy driving style, the Bimmer still returned an average of 25 mpg (9.4 l/100 km) which is not bad at all. Sure, it’s shy of the numbers reported by the Germans but it wasn’t driven in the most economical way, now was it?
