BMW M3 vs BMW 1M vs Mustang Boss 302 by Everyday Driver

Ever since its first version, the M3 was the benchmark of sporty, luxurious and practical cars. Not one car managed to take its crown over the years. When its little brother, the 1M was introduced by BMW, many thought it was even better than the M3.

The guys from Everyday Driver decided to take these two BMWs and compare them to one American contender, the Ford Mustang Boss 302 edition. The 3 cars are amazing in every aspect, so setting them apart is quite a tricky thing to do.

The Mustang is a beast. The 302 edition is even better. Compared to the GT version it has a more powerful V8, an updated suspension and a more aggressive grip, things that really impress you, the first time your drive it.

The 5-liter V8, with its upgraded intake and revised technology puts out 444 HP and 380 lb-ft (515 Nm) of torque and is connected to a manual 6-speed gearbox. It has a Torsen limited slip differential and hold you tight with its Recaro seats.

Overall, it's a big improvement over the standard GT version. It's lighter than the M3 and the engine sound is astounding. Being really quick and with improved handling, this Mustang proves to be a good competitor for the M3's title. However, for an everyday car, it could be better. The interior is still made out of plastic that probably was made out of recycled Pepsi bottles and it is not practical or comfortable. That's why it would be a great second car, just for fun, but not your daily vehicle.

The 1M Coupe, the meaner, little brother, the one that is always seeking to fight someone, is one hell of a car. Coming out with a 6-cylinder 3-liter turbocharged engine that pushes 340 HP and 500 Nm (368 lb-ft) of torque, the 1M was always regarded as a 'mad' car.

It weighs 1,495 kg (3,295 lb) and with that N54 engine under the bonnet it's extremely quick, doing 100 km/h (62 mph) from a stand still in 4.5 seconds and then races up to a top speed of 270 km/h (167 mph).

As the guys found out, the premium feeling is there, inside the cabin, as is in any BMW. The Alcantara leather with red stitching and comfortable, yet sporty seats go well with the perfectly designed steering wheel.

Furthermore, the agility and perfected dynamics of the car make it the best out of the 3. If you are a car enthusiasts you simply cannot help but giggle every time you drive this car, no matter how serious you have to be. It is the embodiment of the BMW spirit.

Going over to the M3, what else it there to say? Every epithet that could've been said about this car has already been said. It was and still is the best in its class, a lineage that will not be broken too soon.

Overall, the guys agreed over one aspect: the BMWs were the best cars in this comparison. Wether it was the M3 or the 1M on the first place, it doesn't even matter, because the differences between the two are mostly subjective and not be taken serious.
