Following a rather long and arduous wait, littered with a flurry of teasers and achievements, BMW has finally revealed online the first-ever M3 Touring ahead of its scheduled public debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed.
Unfortunately, there is some bad news. As far as we know, the all-new 2023 BMW M3 Touring is yet another forbidden fruit across North America. Meanwhile, regions such as Australia or Europe will expect its sales introduction in November 2022 on the Old Continent or early during the first quarter of next year for the Land Down Under.
The BMW M3 Touring is a station wagon that is both capable of hauling family and cargo (with space for up to 1,510 liters/53.32 cu. ft.) as well as flaunting a marvelous Nürburgring Nordschleife record SW lap time of 7 minutes and 35.060 seconds, is finally official. And it will arrive at the Goodwood FoS (June 23-26) with its new body variant designed to challenge traditional rivals: Audi RS 4 Avant, Mercedes-AMG C 43 4Matic.
Interestingly, the Bavarian automaker made sure the newcomer will take the icing off the high-performance premium compact segment’s cake, flaunting up to 503 hp (510 ps) via its ubiquitous six-cylinder in-line engine with M TwinPower Turbo technology, “eight-speed M Steptronic transmission with Drivelogic, and the M xDrive all-wheel-drive system.” So, it opposes those ponies to AMG’s 402 hp inline-four MHEV and Audi’s 444 hp 2.9-liter TFSI twin-turbo V6.
That means upcoming drag and roll races will have a definitive favorite. Until then, BMW M GmbH also wants us to know that its first-ever M3 Touring (at least as far as production wagons are concerned) combines authentic motorsport feeling with a very distinct character and a broader spread of practical qualities.
As such, nothing was forgotten, from the extreme M performance (like a 62 mph/100 kph sprint time of 3.6s and up to 174 mph/280 kph top speed) to everyday usability features like 40:20:40 rear backrest split capability or high-tech connectivity features via the latest iDrive and BMW’s Curved Display.
