As those of you who have a thing for track days know, battling a top-tier FWD hot hatch in a similarly-powered RWD BMW might lead to trouble. We're referring to stuff like the Honda Civic Type R being quicker around the Ring than the BMW M2 Competition, as well as to the occasional spin that might result from a chase involving the two types of machines.
Well, we are now here to zoom in on the latter part. To be more precise, we've brought along a chase that sees an E36 BMW 3 Series Coupe chasing a third-generation Renault Megane RS on the Nurburgring.

It looks like the track was less than dry when the adventure took place. And while the Megane RS had no issue negotiating a corner, the Bimmer simply went sideways went passing through the same bend.

While this E36 does pack M3 visual elements, we can't be certain it is actually an M car. Regardless, the coupe has been prepped for hooning, as we can notice elements such as beefy brakes or a roll cage.

Interestingly, while the BMW driver waited before applying power and doesn't step on the gas too hard (just listen to the car), the rear end steps out violently.

Despite the aficionado's countersteer effort, the car goes wide and stepping on the brakes only amplifies the movement. Luckily, the BMW comes to a halt just before kissing the guardrail.

Those of you who happen to be in a hurry should head over to the 6:45 point of the clip below to check out the said Bimmer sliding action. However, the rest of the clip is also worthy of your attention.

That's because we're dealing with a compilation showcasing Nurburgring slippery and rainy mishaps, with these oopsie moments having taken place between 2015 and the present time.

Speaking of which, the Ring has closed its gates for the 2018 season earlier this month. The track has already received updates for next year. And while the official photos of the construction work obviously don't reveal too much, the rumor mill talks about potential layout changes that could simply be too much for purists.
