BMW M3 Bows at Detroit, Ready to Obliterate the 2015 Mustang

The 2014 Detroit Auto Show is currently hosting more than 50 debuts and a lot of them are cars focused on performance, green-tech and the way we see mobility in the future. Oh, and there’s M.

That’s right, the most powerful letter in the world came to the US with 3 models, all of them long awaited by every BMW aficionado on the North American continent for quite a while. The most important one though, is the brand new M3, a car we’ve been waiting for quite a while now.

Introduced by none other than Ian Robertson, the Sales and Marketing Chief over at the BMW Group, the new car was brought to the show in the exclusive Yas Marina Blue color that was created solely for it.

After going over the specs and the innovations that have been put into the new M car, I now feel kind-of sorry for the new Mustang, even though the two are not head to head rivals. I won’t go into details but, as Ford’s chief engineer told us in an interview, their new model was benchmarked against the old E92 M3 and, therefore, is already a step behind the new F80 version.

With a brand new CFRP driveshaft that is not only stronger and lighter than a conventional steel one but also revs to higher RPMs, and a new petrol biturbo engine that makes 431 HP and 550 Nm of torque out of just 3 liters of displacement, the new Sedan is bound to write history.

Furthermore, looking over the offerings available on the market right now, you’d be hard pressed to find a better car in this segment. Audi has the RS4 but it only comes in the Avant version and it’s drastically heavier whilst the new Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG is yet to come out just like the Cadillac ATS-V. Deliveries of the new M3 will begin in June this year.
