BMW will finally offer a Competition Package in the M3, M4 Coupe and M4 Cabriolet ranges.
The news comes straight from BMW's performance division boss, Frank van Meel. The company's official promised to release further details about the new package shortly. For now, all we know is that the M3 and the M4 will get a package that will increase their driving dynamics and will bring exclusive equipment and a higher engine output.

All the body variants of the M3 and M4 will be available with the new Competition Package, unlike the GTS version that was only available for the M4 Coupe.

BMW's M boss also specifies that the new competition package will still allow the cars to be enjoyed every day, so this upgrade won't bring extreme modifications to the M3 or M4. Most likely, the power of the inline-six turbocharged engine will be raised at a level between the current M3/M4's 431 HP and the M4 GTS's 500 HP. We expect a power hike to a level of around 460 HP for the M3/M4 with the Competition Package.

As usual, this package won't be focused on engine output alone, as the division's boss has already mentioned. So the M3 and M4 could accept a different suspension, with sportier shocks and a different spring rate. Lighter alloy rims and different tires are also a possibility. We don't expect the package to make the M3 or the M4 any lighter, but a small decrease in weight could come from a lighter exhaust system, like the titanium one found on the M4 GTS, or through other components.

The interior of the M3 and the M4 will also get upgrades through the addition of the Competition Package. At the very least, the company will offer a set of badges, side sill ornaments and individual upholstery. On the gadget side, the cars are expected to receive an extended trim once the Competition Package is selected from the optional equipment menu.

We'll keep you posted once we get more information regarding this package, set to be available starting this spring.
