For BMW, customer racing is a long-lived tradition, with several successful machines already doing wonders on the world’s race tracks.

From next year, a new model will join the range, one that is based on the new M2 Competition and the successor of the current entry-level M240i Racing.

The new car was announced in June, but this week the company confirmed the track debut of the model would take place this weekend, on August 3, The Bimmer, driven by drivers Beitske Visser and Jörg Weidinger, will race for six hours in the VLN Endurance Championship.

Until now, the new model was tested on the tracks at Miramas and Portimão, but never in front of a live audience that includes possible customers.

Even if the new BMW racer is on-site for the race, it will not be revealed in full by the Germans, as for the entire six hours of the race, the car will be wrapped in “a special camouflage livery.” Also, the technical details of the vehicle have not been announced.

The M2 Competition the racer is based on is powered by a 3.0-liter, 410 horsepower and 550 Nm of torque engine.

“With the new entry-level model, based on our BMW M2 Competition, we are showing a strong commitment to Customer Racing in general,” said in a statement Markus Flasch, BMW M president.

“At the same time, we are also starting to establish the BMW M club racing sector. Future BMW M special editions will be particularly relevant in this regard.”

The next-generation BMW racer will begin shipping to customers in early 2020. Pricing is unknown at this time.
