In BMW’s world, at the moment, there are only 3 petrol engines available and 4 diesel ones, with certain variations between them. Out of the bunch, the most popular one is the N55 unit, by far.
That’s the one powering all the most exciting cars of the moment from Munich, amongst which we should mention the M235i, M135i, 335i and 435i. All of them use the same architecture, even though their specs are quite different.

Out of the bunch, two immediately pop-out in the audience’s mind due to their styling. We’re talking, of course, about the coupe models, the M235i and the 435i.

They were pitted against each other in an acceleration test that was then posted on a Youtube channel. The thing is, the two are extremely close up to around 200 km/h (124 mph), the difference between them being hardly noticeable.

Looking over the specs, you wouldn’t believe that the duel would be so close. The 435i is the bigger car here, weighing 1,600 kg (3,527 lbs) compared to the M235i’s 1,545 kg (3,406 lbs). However, the 2er has more power on its side, benefiting from 326 HP instead of 306 HP and more torque, rated at 450 Nm (332 lb-ft) instead of 400 Nm (295 lb-ft) on the 4er.

Even the official sprint numbers show a rather important difference between them, the 2er being clocked by BMW at 4.8 seconds (with the automatic transmission) while the 435i posted 5.1 seconds with the same transmission.

With all these numbers, real life can sometimes be different than just some scribbles on a piece of paper and the video below proves it.
