BMW M235i Racing Wins Its First Endurance Race in VLN Championship

The car driven by Daniel Zils (Germany), Norbert Fischer (Germany) and Uwe Ebertz (Germany) succeeded at its first attempt, being followed on the second place by Team Scheid-Partl Motorsport where Max Partl (Germany) and Jorg Weidinger (Germany) teamed up behind the wheel.

Third place went to another M235i Racing car, part of the same Adrenalin Motorsport team, driven by Guido Wirtz (Germany), Christopher M. Rink (Germany) and Oleg Kvitka (Russia).

One of our more familiar team, BMW Sports Trophy Team Marc VDS, also managed a decent finish in the DMV 4 Hour race, coming in 5th overall in their number 25 BMW Z4 GT3 driven by Maxime Martin (Germany) and Jorg Muller (Germany). The two could’ve been on the podium, barely losing out in the final stages of the race when things were really heated up. They were followed home by Claudia Hurtgen and Martin Tomczyk in their own number 20 car for Team Schubert.

It was an eventful race marked by tire failures and even a serious accident that put a hold on the entire venue for around 3 and a half hours, just less than 60 minutes after the event began. Fortunately nobody was seriously injured.

“The tight two-car battles were fun, but they were sometimes pretty gruelling, too. The car was really good in the corners, but our competition were able to overtake us again and again by taking advantage of the slipstream. It was a lot of hard work, but I’m happy. We’re learning more with every race and are moving in the right direction,” said Jorg Muller after the race.

As for the M235i Racing winners, Matthias Unger, Team Principal at Adrenalin Motorsport said: ““I’m very happy about this win – at the end of the day, the competition in this category is very stiff indeed. You could really see the concentration of talent in the BMW M235i Racing Cup class, particularly before the race was stopped. Six cars were covered by just over 20 seconds. However, we naturally went into the race to win it. And we did. I’m very happy about that.”

Hopefully, BMW’s latest privateer racing car will prove its worth over the next races.
