We had a taste of what BMW’s new M235i model can offer a while back and, just like all the other reviewers out there, we were amazed by the level of performance this car offers for the price margin it’s being sold in.
However, we didn’t get a chance to record an acceleration run with it. Fret not as there are plenty of guys out there who did and today we’re looking at a manual model going up to 230 km/h (143 mph).

There are a couple of differences between an automatic model, like the one we tested, and a manual version, like the one you’re about to watch. Sure, the engine remains the same, the N55 unit making 326 HP and 450 Nm (332 lb-ft) thanks to turbocharging.

When it comes to the transmission, the difference comes in terms of fuel consumption and the speed with which the gears are changed. The 0-100 km/h (62 mph) sprint times are different, the manual 6-speed claiming to do the run in 5 seconds while the automatic is 0.2 seconds faster.

At the same time, the weight is different, the automatic weighing 15 kg (33 lbs) more than the manual, the lightest of the two tipping the scale at 1,530 (3,373 lbs). Since the difference is so small, the top speed is the same, electronically limited at 250 km/h (155 mph).

Last, but not least, the 8-speed is more efficient, claiming an average fuel consumption of 7.6 l/100 km (30.9 mpg) with the manual being rated at 8.1 l/100 km (29 mpg).

The one in the video is a manual but that doesn’t make it slow by any means. Actually, it takes it just around 25 seconds to reach 230 km/h (143 mph) and that is extremely impressive. Check it out!
