Just after Germany defeated Argentina in the World Cup Final, BMW celebrated the win on the Landshut speedway circuit where the crowd witnessed one of the most unusual drift races they had the chance to.
A BMW M235i with the complete M Performance works on it raced on the quarter mile track against a speedway bike, specially prepared for such purposes. The car was driven by a German journalist while the bike was handed over to quadruple dirt-track champion, Karl Maier.

Looking over the specs of the two, the BMW was already falling behind. The car has 326 HP and 450 Nm (332 lb-ft) of torque coming out of the 3-liter turbocharged engine under the bonnet but with a dry weight of 1,470 kg (3,300 lbs) it’s hard to keep up agains the much lighter bike.

Speaking of which, we should mention that the two-wheeler is powered by an air cooled 1-cylinder 0.5-liter engine that runs on a special methanol mixture that allows it to make up to 80 HP. Since the bike weighs 80 kg (176 lbs) and was specially designed for the speedway, it’s hard to go around it faster.

However, with an M Performance limited-slip differential on the rear axle and the power to match, the car managed to keep up and perform tight drifts around the course for no less than five hours. Even so, that wasn’t enough for the champion that then took on a BMW S1000RR bike specially fitted with spiked tires and went for a couple of laps with it as well. You can see the entire ordeal go down in the photos below until BMW releases the video.

Update: BMW just published a video showcasing the dynamic duo doing their unique stunt. Check it out!
