The BMW M235i is a good example of the perfect amount of power used on a chassis. Most times the problem with performance cars is that they either have too much power for their own good or they have too little of it. Meeting in the middle is the challenge engineers have to figure out.
Today, getting obscene amounts of power out of small engines is no longer a problem. But how much is enough? In the case of the smallest coupe BMW of the moment, we’d say around 330 HP. That’s right above the 326 HP of the M235i.
The stock car makes that amount of power together with a hefty 450 Nm (332 lb-ft) of torque out of a 3-liter 6-cylinder turbocharged N55 engine. It’s a recipe made to impress without trying too hard.
However, for some people that’s not enough. Despite what every reviewer out there said and what even race car driver claim, more power equals more thrills for some. That’s where tuning companies step up, companies like PP-Performance.
Their program for the M235i can give your car up to 80 extra HP and 170 Nm (125 lb-ft) of torque. The result? A 2 Series with 412 HP and 633 Nm (467 lb-ft) of torque. Just as a quick reminder, that’s more torque than the S55 unit on the M3 and M4, that’s rated at 550 Nm (406 lb-ft). Get it with the iPE exhaust that the car in the video has and your car might be even more impressive than the real ‘M’ models.
