BMW M235i Convertible Spotted Barely Camouflaged Ahead of Debut

The BMW 2 Series Convertible will probably be making its worldwide debut pretty soon, judging by the prototypes photographers are catching up with all over the place. We can tell because of the camouflage or, better said, the lack thereof.

The latest batch of spy shots with a Convertible 2er shows us basically everything on the car. Sure, there are some patches of camo around the headlights, taillights and front bumper but we already know how they look like and no changes are expected in these areas in particular. From the look of things, this will be just the same car with a retractable soft top.

Under the bonnet expect the exact same engine line-up as on the Coupe. The US will probably get only the 228i and M235i models while Europe will also benefit from the frugality of diesel plants in the shape of the 218d and 220d models. Hopefully, they will be using the new B48 diesel engines.

Depending on the added weight of the roof and the mechanical systems around it, the difference in performance could be as big as 0.2 seconds in the sprint times. That means that the fastest model of the range, the M235i Convertible, would do 100 km/h (62 mph) in 5 seconds flat with the automatic 8-speed gearbox.

Since the Paris Motor Show is the first major event scheduled this year we’re guessing we’ll be seeing the 2 Series Convertible debut there. The question is: will it follow in the footsteps of the 4 Series Convertible that looks better in Luxury Line trims than in the M Sport ones?
