BMW M235i Convertible Spied With the Top Down

Springing into our attention, the Convertible version of the BMW M235i couldn’t have gone unnoticed. Our spy photographers quickly got their cameras out and got the upcoming model on film, with its roof down and virtually no camouflage.

The only parts of the car that were covered by BMW’s usual camo were parts of the headlights, front bumper, taillights and badges, as if we needed to see them to know this is a Bimmer.

With the roof down, the 2er looks even better, with a sleek body and powerful character line. Just by looking at the front bumper, the M Performance wheels and the blue brake calipers we can tell that this is an M235i.

That means that we’ll soon be looking at another M Performance Automobile, this time one that allows you to enjoy the summer sun without a roof. Just as it was the case on its predecessor, the 1 Series Convertible, the M235i will be using a soft top, unlike its 4 Series brother that has one made of metal.

Under the bonnet, the same engine line-up as on the Coupe is expected, the US probably being in the cards for the 228i and M235i model. The former has a 2-liter turbocharged petrol unit under the bonnet making 245 HP and 350 Nm (258 lb-ft) of torque while the M performance model is a completely different breed.

Meant to take on the likes of the S models from Audi, the M235i uses a steroid infused 3-liter turbo petrol unit making 326 HP and 450 Nm (332 lb-ft) of torque to get around. The drop-top will, most likely, be heavier than the Coupe therefore the 0-100 km/h (62 mph) sprint will also suffer, probably ending up being rated a bit over 5 seconds.

Expect the new car to be unveiled this summer, with deliveries beginning in autumn, at prices marginally higher than the Coupe’s that starts at $32,100 in the US and €29,800 in Germany.
