It’s been the BMW fan’s wet dream for nearly 10 years now and we’re hearing all kinds of stuff about it every day, more and more enticing, to say the least. I’m talking about a possible M2 model, a car that would bring back the essence of BMW’s DNA to the masses.
Now that the Bavarian company released the long-awaited M235i and is flying people to Las Vegas to show them the new masterpiece, rumors about a possible M2 are resurfacing.

According to Autoexpress, a BMW insider they spoke to at the press event said that an M2 ‘makes a lot of sense’. Later on, when hearing about these rumors, the Bimmerpost insider, Scott26 came out and said that the Munich-based company wants the fastest 4-cylinder car in its segment.

Furthermore, “they also want the M2 to be the most progressive and dynamic car in its segment as well as the lightest performance car. They want a car that has a soul, unlike the Mercedes-Benz AMG A45/CLA 45 which are soulless to drive,” he added.

That sounds brilliant! A dynamic car that has a soul is the best thing BMW could possibly come up with, a return to the ‘old ways’ as enthusiasts would say, the thing everyone’s been asking from BMW for quite a long time now.

So, to recap, the M2 would be powered by a 2-liter, 4-cylinder engine (probably from the B48 family, developed by the M division), will be extremely light (both thanks to the smaller engine and the new materials used) and will have a manual gearbox hooked to a limited-slip differential for a truly fulfilling driving experience. The future sounds good!
