In an era when BMW is continuing to inject extra luxury into its machines, the pure driving spirit of the Bavarian toys is under constant threat. However, with models such as the M2, the automaker is keeping the all-immersive driving experience of the good old days alive. And the time has almost come for the company to unveil the M2 CS.
Sure, the regular M2, if such a word might be used, was already replaced by the sharper Competition, but there's still room for a sharper model in the range.

And we'll get to meet the Clubsport this fall, with the arrival likely to take place at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September or during November's New York Auto Show.

Customer deliveries are scheduled to kick off in Spring 2020, even though the CS badge is rumored to be limited to a little over 2,000 units.

A leaked dealer info sheet has let it slip that the engine compartment of the BMW M2 CS will be animated by the 3.0-liter straight-six of the M4, which means the compact sportscar is set to deliver 450 ponies, which makes for a boost of 40 ponies.

Those who love the interaction with the clutch will be able to go for a six-speed manual, while a dual-clutch tranny will also be offered.

The Clubsport treatment will also target areas such as the brakes, suspension and steering - hopefuly, the factory setup won't be as conservative as that of the M2 Competition, whose understeer safety net is quite large.

Meanwhile, you can check out BMW engineers polishing the final details of the M2 CS in the piece of spy footage below, which shows the toy at the Nurburgring.

Oh, and it looks like there are hopes for an M2 successor, despite most of BMW's compact range moving to a FWD-based platform.

P.S.: That's right, the comparisons involving the just-landed Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 are inevitable, so we can't wait for the two to duke it out on the track.
