BMW M2 CS Racing at Daytona Was a Sight to Behold

During last weekend’s Rolex 24 race at the Daytona track, two major debuts took place: first, two race-prepped versions of the new Corvette, the C8.R, hit the tarmac as they went out in their premiere official battle, and secondly, BMW presented the M2 CS Racing to its American customers.

The car did not take part in the race itself, but was available for a closer look to potential customers, as well as to the spectators attending.

With the American premiere of the car, the German carmaker said the testing and development stages for the new entry-level car in the BMW M Customer Racing program is entering the final stretch.

“North America is the most important market for BMW M worldwide, therefore it is important for us to present the BMW M2 CS Racing as our new entry-level car for the first time in the US,” said in a statement Thomas Felbermair, BMW M Head of Sales and Marketing.

“We are looking forward to giving our fans, customers and BMW dealers a close look at the BMW M2 CS Racing at various events during the next few weeks. I am sure that they will love it.”

The race car is based on the M2 CS and is powered by the same 3.0-liter six-cylinder inline gasoline engine boosted by the M TwinPower Turbo. It develops between 280 and 365 hp, depending on classification, but the maximum output can be increased to 450 hp using an upgrade package that is still under development.

BMW plans to put the new racer on the same level with the M235i Racing and M240i Racing, two of the brand’s most successful cars on the track in recent years.

There is no official date as to when the car will be ready, but orders can already be placed. The CS racing can compete in the TC America as well as VLN Endurance Championship Nurburgring, among other competitions.
