OMG! We all turned into little girls at Christmas when we first saw these spyshots and we’re still trembling as we’re writing this story. The long anticipated BMW F87 M2 Coupe was just spotted testing on public roads and it’s looking absolutely crazy!
Just a couple of days back we were writing a story based on inside information that BMW gave the green light for this project. Well, not even a week passed and we’re now looking at the first prototype of the car and its HUGE wheels.

And we mean huge. Just look at that rear axle! It looks as if it’s coming straight from another car and it’s simply irresistible. Other interesting details can also be observed in these initial spy shots.

For example, looking from the rear quarter of the car, the front fenders look extremely wide, capable of some fierce air channeling while the rear track is absolutely wider than the stock M235i.

Furthermore, if you look closely at the rear axle, you can spot a new detail. The rear differential seems to be different than on a 2 Series. We presume it’s the new LSD and that’s why the car isn’t sporting 4 tailpipes at the back. At the moment, BMW is testing only the drivetrain and chassis setup right now and not the engine.

The rotors are also cross drilled and the brake calipers look very much the same as on the new M3 and M4, therefore further confirming our suspicion that this is, in fact, the M2.

Admittedly, it’s pretty disappointing that we don’t get to see more styling changes (the front bumper, for example, is exactly stock, as seen on the M235i), but that doesn’t really matter right now. Those elements will come into play later on.

What does matter is that BMW is actually testing the car and we’ll get to see it launched in late 2015 as a 2016 model. The engine will be codenamed N55B30T0 and will be making around 380 HP from a 3-liter inline 6-cylinder architecture. With the car’s compact size, we can’t wait to see what it’s capable of.
