The BMW M2 Coupe was launched this week and reading the press release thoroughly might’ve brought you the same revelation as it did to us. Care to guess what we’re talking about? Well, we’re talking about the fact that BMW used a rather peculiar style when writing that thing.
Maybe we’re just being paranoid, but to us it felt rather strange that nearly everywhere the M2 badge was mentioned the "Coupe" word followed. That seems to be the standard procedure when a model has more than one body style available.

For the M3, for example, most of the time, the Germans don’t specify that it’s a sedan. Being the only body type available, there’s no actual need to do so. Then again, for the M4 there’s no such thing, as the car is available in both Coupe and Convertible guises.

That led us to believe that there might be another model in the works with the M2 badge on it. How about a Convertible then? We wouldn’t say no, that’s for sure, and since the M235i is available in this guise as well, the development shouldn’t be a problem.

So Theophilus Chin went to work and quickly put together a rendering of the M2 without a roof, and we’re absolutely loving it. Of course, this version would be a bit heavier than the Coupe due to the body strengthening needed to compensate for the lack of a rooftop. And yet, the feeling you get with the roof down, driving around during warm spring days, might be worth it.

You’d also have to give up some boot space, but who cares anyway. It’s not like family guys will be looking into this and are worried about strollers fitting in the boot, right?

In the meantime, under the hood the same N55B30T0 unit will be animating things, with its 370 HP and up to 500 Nm (369 lb-ft) of torque. That, combined with rear-wheel drive, would be a recipe for success. How do you feel about such a proposal?
