It seems like UK customers and fans of the BMW M2 model will be shorthanded in terms of supply. According to Auto Express, the Germans will build less than 500 right-hand drive M2 cars destined for the UK market for some reason.
This will definitely spark some uproar on the Internet and quite furious reactions from fans around the world, and an explanation of why this decision was taken hasn’t been offered (yet). Therefore, you might want to hurry down to your local dealer and post a deposit for one of those, as the UK market is one of the biggest in Europe for M models right now.

That means you’ll also want to know the price tag, right? Well, the M2 will start at £44,070, which is a more than decent bracket for its level of performance. But how is the M2 priced against its chief rivals?

We’re talking about the CLA45 AMG and the Audi RS3, of course, even though the latter is a hot hatch and not a Coupe. Well, the Merc is a bit cheaper, starting at £41,695 with the 7-speed automatic gearbox, which is also the only choice for the car anyway. At the same time, the Benz is also a bit faster, with the 0-62 mph sprint taking only 4.2 seconds compared to the BMW’s 4.3 seconds.

Moving to the car with four rings on the front grille, the RS3 starts at £39,955 and brings a 2.5-liter inline 5-cylinder turbocharged engine good for 367 HP and an acceleration of 4.3 seconds, exactly the same as on the M2, even though it should be mentioned that the hatch has all-wheel drive on its side.

How tantalizing is BMW’s offer now? Well, it is the most expensive model in this trio and that’s with the manual 6-speed gearbox, the DCT adding another £2,500 to that price. It’s getting a little expensive but considering the M4 is at least £13,000 more, it may be a worthy price to pay.
