You rarely get to see a BMW M1 these days and the same goes for the i8 as well. It’s even rarer to get the two together in one shot. Scott Hughes apparently not only gets to look at them anytime he pleases, he also gets to drive them whenever he feels the need to because he owns a pair.
He’s the first owner of a BMW i8 in South Carolina and he stepped in front of the camera at the request of Century BMW to talk about his decision to purchase the new plug-in hybrid sportscar and how the two milestones in the history of the Bavarian manufacturer feel compared to each other.

The original mid-engined supercar, the M1 was built by BMW only to be able to race it against Porsche in various motorsport events. However, their intention was more than welcomed by enthusiasts and over the years the car became some sort of icon.

Built in just 453 units this is truly a rare bird, especially considering the years that passed since it went out of production and just how few there are out there that are still running.

On the other hand, in the 21st century, 33 years later, the brand Scott loves brought out another incredible masterpiece. This time it was efficiency and not straight up performance that charmed the crowd.

The BMW i8 was brought out nearly unchanged compared to the concept that inspired it. It’s looking so futuristic that most people claim it’s from the future when they look at it. It’s basically all you could wish for in a single package.

That’s also Scott’s opinion that, as he says, was fortunate enough to have driven some of the best cars around. The experience he gained over the years allows him to say, without a doubt, that the i8 is right up there with the best of the best. Let’s see what arguments he brings.
