Recent reports would have had us believe that BMW might salvage the tech of the i8 to make a supercar of its own. Now though, it has become pretty clear that they are not going to give up on the ‘i’ range, but the M1 is also coming as a revival model in 2016.
Reports from the German media suggest that the M1 Mk2 will have an lightweight body made from aluminum, magnesium, titanium and various modern plastics. This will help drop the overall mass to just 1,250 kg (2,756 lbs).
Powering the BMW supercar will be a turbocharged V8 developing somewhere between 600 and 650 horsepower. The fastest and most powerful Bavarian car ever would thus be able to reach a top speed of 30 km/h (205 mph).
The bad news is that the M1 will not be a budged motor, reportedly costing somewhere in the region of €250,000 ($317,000 at the current exchange rate).
