The 2014 Chicago Auto Show wasn’t all that useless for BMW enthusiasts after all. It was the venue where the Germans announced that the M Performance parts for the new X5 will be heading US-way pretty soon.
That means that lovers of big, sporty machines can rejoice. The Boss will be getting a make-over that will turn him into the meanest, toughest SUV around.
So, what does the M Performance pack bring? Well, for starters, some stripes! No, I’m kidding. The MPP includes new mirror caps, front splitter, rear diffuser and rear aero flaps. On top of all those, you can also get a new rear spoiler, high-gloss black kidney grilles and M Performance rocker panel decals (these are the stripes I’ve been mentioning). Of course, exclusive 21 inch wheels (with performance tires) complete the exterior package.
Inside you can get carbon fibre trims alongside an Alcantara wrapped steering wheel (with carbon fibre accents, of course) and a carbon fiber gear lever. For a touch of exclusivity, aluminum pedal covers are also available.
The most interesting bit though, comes in the shape of the M Performance Power kit for various models. For the xDrive35i, the M PPK will take the total output of the car up by 20 HP and 32 lb-ft of torque, to a grand total of 320 HP and 450 Nm (332 lb-ft) of torque. A new M Performance exhaust will make sure you get a new sound with all that added power and a sharper pedal response.
Of course, with great power comes great responsibility. In this regard, BMW made sure an M Performance brake kit is also available, that upgrades the standard brakes on the X5 with 6-piston calipers and 19” steel rotors.
