Competition was scarce. Many of the other drivers experiencing problems with their S4s and Subarus. Richard Pinard was sabotaged by his brake fluid that leaked and left him without proper brakes.

On the other hand, Audi driver Michael Stephen had problems with his right rear tire. Furthermore, after only 5 laps he had to retire because a pulley dislodged the water pump belt on his car, resulting in an ever-rising water temperature.

Overall, the spectators in Killarney, South Africa had quite a show to watch and cheered for BMW's victory in the first race of the season.

Here's what Adrian Buford had to say: "And when the dust and noise had settled after the first it was pretty much what the pundits had expected, with the BMWs finishing in the order which they qualified: first and second. Johan Fourie romped away with it, Etienne van der Linde riding shotgun – and keeping a train of Audis behind him."
