BMW Launches New M Performance Parts and Power Kits for F16 X6

It seems like the BMW M Performance Parts presence on the set of the 2014 Essen Motor Show was just a prelude to a host of new parts the company has in mind. Today, the Germans unveiled a completely new set for the X6 made up of M Performance Parts but also two new M Performance Power kits.

On the visual and aerodynamic front, we’ll start off saying that the new X6 already looks grumpy as hell. However, BMW decided it was not enough and, for those looking to further spruce up their rides, it’s now offering a complete set of M Performance Parts for your own viewing pleasure.

The exterior

On the outside, things can be spiced using the new carbon fiber front splitter, rear diffuser and rear spoiler as well as rear fins and rear side flaps in gloss black. On top of that, you can also get some hand-built carbon BMW M Performance exterior mirror caps to replace the stock ones.

There’s a new radiator grille with black slats and frame available as well along with 21-inch bi-color wheels to match that are 1.5 kg (3 lbs) lighter than the standard model thanks to a new manufacturing process. To top it all off, a new M Performance rear silencer is also available that comes with new, chromed, trapezoidal tailpipes a là V8.

The interior

Inside, there are plenty of choices as well. Unfortunately, most of them include carbon fiber in one way or another. While for some that will be appealing, I think enough is enough and carbon fiber should be kept on the outside alone.

There’s a new set of trims available for the dash and the center console, a new gearshift lever that’s also dressed in carbon fiber if you want it to and even the new Alcantara steering wheel has carbon fiber on it, to make matters worse.

Other interior accessories include new floor mats, new door sills with illuminated logos and new stainless steel pedal covers and driver’s footrest.

The performance boost

This is actually the most interesting part of the new host of M Performance parts for the X6. Apparently the company decided to launch two Power Kits for the Sport Activity Coupe and both of them are rather impressive.

The first model to receive extra grunt is the xDrive30d, fitted in standard guise with a 3-liter inline 6-cylinder diesel making 258 HP and 560 Nm (413 lb-ft) of torque. With the new M Performance Power kit, the output will go up to 277 HP and 585 Nm (431 lb-ft) of torque, improving the sprint to 62 mph (100 km/h) by 0.2 seconds.

What’s even more interesting is that the process is not comprised only of changing the ECU map but also includes replacing the intercooler and the brakes of the car for perfect performance.

The xDrive35i also gets a PPK and this time, the improvements are even bigger. The 3-liter inline 6-cylinder N55 engine makes 306 HP and 400 Nm (295 lb-ft) of torque in standard guise. With the new kit it will be taken up to 326 HP and 450 Nm (332 lb-ft) of torque which is right on par with the M235i model.

With it also comes a half a second sprint improvement (5.9 seconds versus 6.4), a sportier accelerator setup along with optimised engine and exhaust soundtrack.

To top it all off, you can also upgrade the brakes individually with 19” ones that have lightweight construction and increased heat resistance. You can check them all out in the gallery below.
