Being at the forefront of your respective field does come with a bag full of perks, but every once in a while everybody needs a pat on the shoulder to keep at it with the same determination. And for the technology sector, there is no bigger pat on the shoulder than the Plus X Awards.
Walking away with one such award is a great achievement, but landing four, as German automaker BMW did last week, is more than memorable. One of the most active producers when it comes to efficient, innovative and sustainable products, BMW managed to impress the 34 specialized journalists and market experts from 32 countries.
The car maker was awarded four prizes for the BMW ConnectedDrive set of technologies: Innovation, Design, Operating Comfort and Best Technology of the Year 2011. On top of all that, the jury awarded BMW a Plus X Award seal of quality.
ConnectedDrive, as most of you know and as some have already experienced in their BMWs, was introduced at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 1999 with only a handful of features: Information Service, Emergency Call and traffic information, all wrapped in the BMW package.
Now, ConnectedDrive stands for all the modern day infotainment features available on the market: full-color head-up display, camera-based traffic sign recognition, BMW Night Vision with pedestrian recognition and Active Cruise Control with Stop & Go function. Not to mention features that will soon be available and shape the world of tomorrow, like the Panoramio and Street View supported by BMW Online and Google local search.
