BMW’s K1600GT heavyweight tourer has been made both compliant with new emission regulations and better for the long ride in 2017. New flashy colors are on the list too.
So, the big Bavarian bike has received a new semi-active suspension with automatic damping adjustment and two modes, namely “Road” and “Dynamic“, so ride experience and comfort have been improved substantially.
The “Road” setting offers optimum damping force in all riding conditions, no matter the load, which can also be adjusted according to rider preference via a button on the handlebars. So if the sun shines brightly and the road is clear, you can press it into “Dynamic” on the go and set a tighter damping setup for a more spirited ride.
Being a large bike, the K1600GT also gets a new reverse assist that can be activated at the press of the starter button and helps you back up the machine at a slow, safe speed.
A new side trim and bigger slipstream deflectors will keep the passengers better protected on highway runs while the dashboard got a bit redesigned and new options now include quickshifter that works for both up- and downshifts.
BMW’s Intelligent Emergency Call is also a useful option and will kick in if the system detects a crash, sending the coordinates of the accident to the BMW Call Center.
Although it got retuned to meet mandatory Euro 4 emissions regulation, the engine on the 2017 BMW K1600GT remained the same liquid-cooled 1,649 cc inline-six unit that generates 160 hp at 7,750 rpm and a maximum torque of 175 Nm (129 lb-ft) at 5,250 rpm.
The new model will be available in three color setups - Mars Red Metallic, Black Storm Metallic, and Blue Lupin Metallic with Black Storm Metallic. BMW hasn’t revealed pricing information for the moment, but keep close to find it out as soon as it will be made available.
