BMW K1600 Bagger Most Likely Arriving This Autumn

It's not the first time when a BMW bagger based on the K1600 platform comes into the discussion, but this time, it looks like it's for real. During a talk at the Villa d'Este, CEO top brass Stephan Schaller declared that we're in for a surprise this year. And yes, he was talking about a new K1600 tourer, right next to the sizzling hot BMW Concept 101 prototype.

Big-displacement BMW tourers other than the classic three existing models (GT, GTL, and the Exclusive) have been discussed time and again, and some designers even took to imagining how they would look.

Wunderlich's Nicola Petit even came up with a rendering that looked so amazing that we felt sorry it was only a digital machine. That K1600GTL Bagger summed up pretty much all there was needed to deliver a touring bike in the vein of the Honda F6B and which could tackle the US market triumphantly.

However, with Mr. Schaller's declaration that the project that stood at the foundation of Concept 101 was won abandoned and will be followed this year by a "nice surprise," we got hyped up once more. Regardless of the fact that nobody mentioned whether the new machine will surface at the Intermot or EICMA, the bets news it that a sweet, American-vibe K1600 bagger is on its way.

Frankly, we put our money on BMW pulling the wraps off their new K1600 machine in Cologne, at the Intermot. The event is held every two years and has a very good place in the hearts of German motorcyclists. Therefore, it sounds like a sleek marketing move to introduce the new in-line six touring machine on German ground, during a German event.

Rumors also indicate that BMW also plans to unveil a revamped K1600GT, and we just can't help dreaming that the new Munich tourers will retain some of the fluid lines of Concept 101, albeit we are resigned to the fact that the wooden panels will not be there.

Like we said before, if the new BMW K1600 machines look like the Concept 101, Harley, Honda, and even Victory might have a problem.
