The guys from Automobile Magazine placed the BMW i8 on the top spot for their 2014 Design of the Year Award, confirming what we all knew: the i8 is simply brilliant.

The car, that is the result of 7 years of research, development and brainstorming sessions, finally made it into production form, after teasing the hell out of people around the world, at every auto show where the concept was shown. Everyone asked only one thing when stumbling upon it: “Will the production model look anything like the concept?”. The answer was ‘yes’.

And boy, did they do a good job! Based on the Vision Concept revealed at the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show, the i8 is, today, one of the best looking cars on the road. Sure, everyone was skeptic at first, seeing just how futuristic the Vision’s design was but ultimately, BMW made it work. For a price.

Well, what did you expect? The car has so much high-tech on it, even with the USD135,000 price tag it’s quite interesting to see what the profit margin will be. I mean, the car has gorilla glass on it, the same type of glass used on smartphones, not to mention all the carbon fiber, laser lights and high-tech batteries and renewable materials used.

However, we’re here to talk about its design and how it inspires the world. Sure, some might say that the car has weird lines along the body and that it’s too curvaceous but that’s just to get to that 0.26 drag coefficient that helps the car reach a fuel consumption of 94 mpg (2.5 l/100 km). Okay, maybe it’s for showing off too, but don’t you just love it? We do.
