According to an unnamed source quoted by Bimmerpost, it seems like the Spyder version of the most awaited car of 2014, the i8, is on the way, getting the green light from the company management.

Apparently, the roofless i8 will be introduced in late 2015, a year after the regular model will be entering dealerships around the world. Rumor has it that the approval came Friday (December 13) and that in order to convince the people who needed convincing, a production intent model in Solar Orange was shown.

Technically, the Spyder will be exactly the same as the Coupe version, using the same 1.5-liter 3-cylinder engine that makes 231 HP and the electric motor with its 131 HP for a total of 362 HP and 570 Nm of torque.

Stylistically, the two will probably be looking the same, the new model lacking the roof and the rear seats.
