BMW is really out to impress these days and its latest commercials sure are doing just that. After they showed us how it would look like to drift a brand new M4 on an aircraft carrier, this time they turned to the more silent side of performance.
Their UK branch just released a brand new spot for the i8, showcasing its unique features in just 34 seconds. And while we’ve been getting used to seeing loud, obnoxious videos showcasing smoke, tires and heated brakes, this time everything is quiet.

Just like the i8. The plug-in sports car is the first of its kind to come out of Munich. Its unique body style, powertrain and features make it the most technically advanced vehicle ever made by BMW.

The powertrain is made up of two plants, one internal combustion unit in the back making 231 HP and 320 Nm (236 lb-ft) of torque powering the rear wheels and one electric motor up front making 131 HP and 250 Nm (184 lb-ft) of torque, powering the front axle.

Combined, they make 362 HP and 570 Nm (420 lb-ft) of torque, give the car all-wheel-drive capabilities and use two gearboxes, one with two ratios for the electric motor and one with six.

Sure, this kind of technology was seen before but not at this price and with such performance. There are three hypercars out there that also use hybrid powertrains but they’re level of performance is in the 1,000 HP range and are destined mostly for the track.

The i8 is a different breed. It can be driven on all electric mode for up to 22 miles, but it can also return 121 mpg (2.1 l/100km) which is something none of its competitors can brag with. Priced at a fraction of what a P1 or 918 Spyder would cost, the BMW looks like a pretty good deal to us.

Deliveries in the UK will begin on July 19th, if we’re to believe what this ad is saying. Therefore, the prospective owners have just 10 more days of waiting to do. It must feel like hell right about now...
