If Chrysler has Eminem and Dr. Dre to prove their cars are imported from Detroit, who could BMW possibly use to prove its new i8 is the car of the future that you can buy today. How about Arthur C. Clarke, a man who exactly 50 years ago made some very interesting predictions about the future.
The BMW commercial "Hello Future" takes one part of that Clarke's rousing 1964 BBC presentation and ads the i8. As you guys know already, this is the flagship of the range, a car which for $136,000 delivers electric mobility, the performance of a 335i and looks which you can't really explain.

"Trying to predict the future is a discouraging and hazardous occupation. If by some miracle a prophet could describe the future exactly as it was going to take place, his predictions would sound so absurd that people everyone would laugh him to scorn. The only thing we can be sure of about the future is that it will be absolutely fantastic. So, if what I say now seems to you to be very reasonable, then I will have failed completely. Only if what I tell you appears absolutely unbelievable have we any chance of visualizing the future as it really will happen," Clarke says.

2014 really is the year of the 'present future'. Not only do we have smartphones, but we can also drive one.

He also loves local car culture from all over the world, so don't be surprised to see him getting excited about weird Japanese imports, low-rider VWs out of Germany, replicas from Russia or LS swaps down in Florida.
