Things are simply getting out of hand with the i8. After Manhart released a couple of photos of their upcoming kit for the plug-in sportscar, the internet apparently went mad.
We saw a couple of editorials going online claiming that what the German shop (and other tuners as well) has done was sacrilegious and that such things should stop. Of course, others went further and claimed that things could go in a completely different direction, starting the ‘i8 all the things’ campaign.

Of course, some guys on Oppositelock started posting photos of various renderings and soon things got out of hand. The whole madness was kicked off by a photo showing the i8 with a Hellcat SRT front fascia.

We have to admit that the Hellcat crossbred creation looks rather good but as for the others... let’s just say they don’t tickle our fancy. That’s putting it mildly though, as some are downright ridiculous.

If you’ll just check the photo gallery you’ll notice that readers went as far as to cross cars like the new Mustang, 2015 Miata, Holden, Pontiac G8, Aston Martin V8 Vantage and even a Subaru WRX. The award for the craziest take has to go to the Ferrari 458 Italia look-alike, by far.

In the meantime, we mustn’t forget why the i8 was created in the first place. This BMW is supposed to show us how transportation will be done in the future without having to drop internal-combustion engines altogether. To set an example, the car was fitted with a 1.5-liter 3-cylinder turbocharged engine making 231 HP and 320 Nm (226 lb-ft) of torque and an electric motor making 131 HP and 250 Nm (184 lb-ft) of torque.

Together, they offer the i8 362 HP and 570 Nm (420 lb-ft) of torque sent to all four wheels of the car. The BMW-estimated fuel consumption sits at as high as 121 mpg (2.1 l/100 km) while the CO2 emissions are rated at 59 g/km. The price tag? $136,700 for starters in the US.
