Twilight Purple is a beautiful color, but it's also extremely rare. I've only ever seen one other BMW in this shade, and that was a 760Li that also came from the United Arab Emirates.
But that's where the problems start for this particular i8. Twilight isn't supposed to be just some ordinary purple that you can order for your Skoda. It's supposed to be a BMW Individual color that has depth provided by many layers. Under certain light conditions, it can look black or yellowish.
But this BMW i8 from Abu Dhabi looks like an extraordinary car with an ordinary paintjob. Sure, there probably aren't any others in purple in the Emirates, probably in the world, but is that such a mind-blower?
We think this shade of Twilight Purple might have come from a wrap catalog, not BMW Individual. The people who have put it together also got rid of all the blue i badges that adorned the outside of the vehicle, though the color is still present inside.
As we've become accustomed to, BMW Abu Dhabi fitted the Twilight Purple i8 with a body kit from AC Schnitzer. They must have a shedload of them lying around just in case somebody wants a race car look for this hybrid.
Schnitzer's kit is made from carbon fiber and includes a large front splitter that goes around the bumper, side skirts, modified rear diffuser and a fixed rear wing. All the dark elements work well with the color of the i8.
A corresponding set of five-spoke alloy wheels designed specifically for the i8 has also been added, together with matching rubber. The interior is pretty much the stock one. The beauty of this car is by no means undeniable. Some people will say that silver looks better or that the i8 didn't need a body kit. But the BMW brand is nothing if not polarizing in nature.
