BMW i8 GT3 Rendered, Looks Absolutely Vicious

BMW will be replacing the aging Z4 GT3 in international motorsport events next year and its successor was already announced as the M6 GT3. But what if a different car was to take over? What if it was the i8? Well, one daring rendering just surfaced online, showing the i8 in GT3 clothes and we have to admit that it looks rather good.

The image isn’t perfect as some details were apparently taken straight from other models (like the kidney grilles up front that are still sporting the M4 logo) but overall, it’s an excellent job.

First of all, you’ll notice the funky livery the guys from Jaydub design gave the i8, decked with Bosch, Puma and Sonax stickers as well as the traditional M stripes.

Then you might find out that the front bumper was heavily modified to accommodate an intercooler behind the center front grille as well as an extra carbon fiber spoiler that should increase downforce.

On the top side of the fenders, you now have vents to let off hot air coming from the brakes while the wheels and tires were changed from the skinny setup of the original to a more aggressive setup. Even the bonnet was changed and is now featuring some extra vents.

Even the side sills were replaced with ones that start out with gills, for some imagined purpose. The boot lid is now featuring a massive carbon fiber wing while the finishing touch seems to be a complete roll cage installed inside.

While it’s all looking beautiful, we doubt that the 1.5-liter 3-cylinder engine of the i8 would be up to the task of challenging GT3 cars. If BMW decided to use a proper V8 though, as is the case on the M6 GT3 for example, things would undoubtedly change and for the better as the i8 sure looks better than anything the Germans have to offer at the moment.
