We all like to watch the i8 in action, whether it’s on snowy roads or even a track but how about looking at it all mangled and destroyed? That’s a true test for the gearhead in you, and not many people manage to pass it without an awkward grimace on their face.
This weekend an unlucky owner had the bad luck of being on the same Autobahn in Germany as an oblivious Audi A3 driver at the same time. For some reason, the driver of the Audi wanted to merge in the i8’s lane and didn’t check his mirrors while doing so.

The result can be admired in the photo gallery below. Info is scarce at the moment but from what we can gather, both of them hit the guardrails and traveled for a while before coming to a full stop.

Needless to say, both are totaled but we’re rather curious to know just how fast were they traveling. That’s because while the A3 is a conventional car, the i8 is built from CFRP, and a lot of people have been wondering how the material handles a crash.

According to early reports, there were no victims, so it seems like the Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymer did its job quite well. Sure, the i8 doesn’t look all that great but that’s now the point, now is it?

Of course, the aluminum Life Module also had a word or two to say in this whole matter but in the end it doesn’t matter all that much as long as everyone made it back home in one piece. Just let the insurance companies settle out the rest.
