After BMW CEO Harald Krueger confirmed that the brand was currently working on the upcoming i car, the internet paid attention and started releasing all sorts of renderings showing how the i5 should look like. The latest comes from Theophilus Chin, who had an unusual take on the matter.
It should be noted from the get-go that the future i car is just rumored to wear the i5 nameplate, but so far no confirmation came via official or unofficial channels. Considering that BMW reserved all names from the i1 to the i9 a while back, anything can happen.

According to recent info leaked on the Internet and the statements of Harald Krueger, the car will be bigger than the i3, a hint that makes this rendering look ridiculous, but we’ll bite anyway. Furthermore, recent rumors also claim that the car will, in fact, be a crossover, a sort of rival to the likes of the Model X, the only pure electric SUV of the moment.

Another possible body type would be the sedan, in which case the new BMW would be aiming at the Model S directly, the American manufacturer’s best-seller (and only one so far). Either way, the new model will surely have a design that is bound to spark controversies.

No matter how controversial it will be, though, it won’t look like a Nissan as is the case here. Basically, as Chin admits, the rendering below is nothing but the Nissan IDS Concept with a BMW i8 nose grafted on it. Therefore, it looks as basic as it could.

This would be a third possible body variant for the upcoming electric Bimmer, and it could fit the description detailed by the current CEO. If the proportions are right, the hatch could be more spacious than the i3, but the chances of BMW building yet another hatch are slim, at best! Good effort, though!
