Everyone is waiting for the new i cars from BMW to reach a dealership somewhere near them. We all want to get to drive them but they might be more than just EVs or hybrid plug-in cars, they are trendsetters.
The thing is, BMW is now testing the ground with the new cars, after launching a pilot program that allowed drivers around the world to drive electrified 1 Series (E82) models and EV MINIs ( better known as MINI E and ActiveE).

That program proved to be a success and the data collected really helped out a lot with the development of the i3 and i8. Actually, the German company is still renting the cars to whoever wants them, through their partner, Sixt rentals.

The i3 will be the ultimate city-car from BMW, there's not doubt about it, but it does have some drawbacks for some people, especially family men. It is a perfect car for daily commutes but it doesn't have all the extra space you'd need to carry around all your family's luggage on a trip.

That's why, an i5 might be possible in the future, according to a source, talking to Car and Driver. This new model will fit right between the i3 and i8, being more of a people carrier model than a sports car or a city-car.

However, at the moment, no other potential i cars received the green light and that is because BMW is waiting to see how the first 2 will deal with the market. If they prove to be successful, the i5 and other models might soon come out to play.
